EUI Innovation Grant: Station for Tranformation

We are excited and humbled to have been awarded a European Urban Initiative innovation grant: between September 2023 and August 2027, the EU supports our project consortium with 5 Mio Euro to transform the train station of Rovereto (IT) into a public-civic hub that fosters joint actions on climate change and biodiversity loss.

Our plan is to both transform the station into a community resource that produces transversal thought, strategy and action necessary to address the eco-social crises we are in, while at the same time testing if such a transformation of a train station could be a model for other stations across Europe.

Just imagine what a push this could be for the ecological transition if you could travel across Europe by train and would be able to dive into a community’s struggles, strategies and good practices around climate change and biodiversity loss!

The S4T project consortium is led by the Municipality of Rovereto in collaboration with the Valley District of the Vallagarina. With La Foresta, together with the Center for Other Worlds/Lusofona University, we will lead the project on participatory methods, co-design and modelisation along the New European Bauhaus values and principles.

In the consortium with us there are: Campomarzio for redesigning the spaces, the University of Trento for enhancing impact and agro-food expertise, Trentino Social Tank for the work with schools and social entrepreneurship training, Europe Consulting oiling the collaboration with the Italian Railways and the Center for International Cooperation working with our three transfer towns.

Here you can learn more about the EU programme this falls into: European Urban Initiative. While over here you can find out who else got granted funding to experiment with urban innovation and New European Bauhaus principles: winners of the first EUI call 2022.

And here some images from behind the scenes as developing and framing the project idea was an exciting yet at times super demanding process that took us 12+ months.
