“I think the question of administration is for everyone, that’s why I’m trying to drag these magnetically repellent poles together, of artists and admin, because artists do have a certain set of training and skills that they can apply to all sorts of situations which have to do with working with materials. Admin is another material. In some ways it’s a big, consolidated concept, but in other ways it’s just so full of stuff. There are spreadsheets, contracts, and filing cabinets. And any of those things can be worked with as materials to be experimented with and changed.”

ACElab’s MSCA Fellow Kate Rich talks admin, entrepreneurship and feral vocabularies with Ràdio Web MACBA, at the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona. In this podcast we consider the cycles of learning and unlearning required to open up the imaginaries of cooperation and business, and access their enduring emotional content. We recap experiences of shared bank accounts, economic abstractions as temporary hiding places, greyness as camouflage or cover, and acknowledge administrative practice as the inevitable soundtrack of our lives that is waiting to be reimagined.
