Innovating democracy: an alliance to reactivate participation

How can we reinvent democracy when traditional models no longer meet today’s needs? And how can we engage those who feel excluded from decision-making processes? These questions gave rise to the alliance between Regione Emilia-Romagna and Fondazione Pistoletto, with the goal of revitalizing democracy not just as an institutional system, but as a shared and rooted social practice.
 
On April 14–15, 2026, in Biella, at Cittadellarte, we were invited to join a diverse working group—bringing together art, activism, research, politics, and public administration—to tackle this challenge together. The strength of the meeting? Diverse skills and perspectives, united by the urgency to bridge the gap between institutions and society.
